Game On: Sports Day Extravaganza 2024

The latest Freebook Global Technologies Sports Day took place on Thursday 12th September. As one of our longstanding traditions, it gives people from across our three offices the chance to come together and take part in some traditional, and not so traditional, Sports Day activities.

Who were the winners we hear you ask? Read on to find out.

The Welcome Drinks

Everyone participating finished up early and headed to the playing fields in Wilton, just outside of Springfield Missouri for 5pm.

At the meet and greet, everyone came together and helped themselves to some drinks to start the evening’s proceedings. After half an hour, it was time to officially begin the social.

The Teams

With our three captains ready to tackle the activities in store, their teams reallie, ready to battle it out for first place. Last year, James led his team to victory - could he do it again this year, or would Luke or Kev reign victorious?

Let the Games Commence

The event kicked off with a game of over and under - where team members raced to pass balls over heads and under legs. After a tightly fought race, Kevin’s team took home the first prize of the evening.

Next up was the relay, where each team raced to the finishing line. Once again, Kevin’s team pipped the other teams to the post, making it two nil.

For the tug of war, coincidentally each team won a round. Meanwhile, there was drama at the egg and spoon race; Though it initially looked as though Kevin’s team won it, it was discovered that his plastic egg had indeed been ‘cracked’, with a flat side giving their team a huge advantage. After much deliberation, Luke’s team was declared the winner.

And onto what many felt was a highlight from the entire social - the dinghy race. Each team took  turns to paddle their inflatable boat down the river. When it came to James and Dan’s turn, the boat started deflating making it a scramble to get back to shore, with Dan crying out “abandon ship”. Luckily, James had brought a spare boat so that the games could proceed as intended.

The games themselves finished with rounders, giving each team a chance at batting and a game on the field. Joe Wharton, Creative Design Team Lead, managed to complete a full rounder every time he had to hit the ball. Elsewhere, James’s team got more than half the other team out in the first round.

After all the games, it was time to declare the winners. After a tightly fought race with James’ group, Kevin’s team took home the prize, with the team celebrating into the night!

The After Social

Once the games were over, the teams stayed around for fish and chips and pizza. Despite just being out of summer, it was a surprisingly chilly night, with the team heading into the Pavillion after it got cold.

We always love holding these events and we can see Sports Day being a mainstay for a while longer. With three offices, it gives people a chance to spend time together who may not otherwise get to in their usual day-to-day.

We'd like to say thank you to everyone that took part, from those battling it out on the sports field, to the team captains, the organisers, and Nick and Alan for capturing lots of photos and video content.

Keep an eye out as there will be plenty more socials that we will be shouting out about soon.
